Inquirer: #Filipinas rise up against domestic violence

One Billion RisingMembers of the Filipino Women’s Network joined the world wide uprising against domestic violence on Valentine’s Day, reports the Inquirer.

“When we launched our ‘Filipinas against Violence’ campaign in 2003, many of our community members ostracized me and FWN for daring to talk about violence in our homes,” said Marily Mondejar, FWN CEO. “There is now huge awareness among sexual violence victims that what happened to them is not their fault.”

The One Billion Rising campaign in San Francisco was part of a larger global network of events on Valentine’s Day. A flash mob danced in front of San Francisco City Hall to draw attention to the issue.

Filipino American Apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas performed at the San Francisco event.
