“We think this event is a serious problem to Japan and the Japanese because public opinion in the United States has a major impact to the opinion of the world,” said Koichi Mera, 80, president of the group Global Alliance for Historical Truth.

“The fact of the matter is that comfort women were not forcibly snatched by Japanese military or government officials,” he said, “but rather were recruited.”

Mera was recently an international business professor at the University of Southern California.

Recently 13 members of a Japanese delegation visited the memorial and also called for its removal.

You can read reaction from the Korean American Forum, one of the groups that lead the effort for the memorial, in the Global Post.
