NY Times: An Industry of Lies in Chinatown

New York ChinatownCourt filings based on a secret recording lay out a case against an industry based on lies (photo by Loui Loui).

The New York Times reports on the tape that a lawyer is heard advising an asylum applicant to lie, to “just make it up.”

The applicant claimed she was forced in China to have an abortion to comply with the country’s family planning laws.

The  recording was part of an investigation that lead to the prosecution of at least 30 people–lawyers and paralegals among them.

Chinese immigrants apply for asylum more than any other group in the country. The amount of Chinese applying for asylum in New York alone is 60 percent.

For a closer look at the asylum industry in Chinatown, and the high rejection rate of Chinese applicants, you can read the New York Times.
