The anonymous group behind racist fliers posted at the University of Florida says it did it as a “social experiment,” reports WCJB.
The flier which featured an Asian dog eating remark was spotted in at least 10 areas on campus.
The anonymous e-mail read in part:
“We created the poster as a social experiment to get people’s responses. We wanted to put reactions to the voice mail on You Tube, what we really wanted was to make fun of the people who called in thought it was a serious ad.”
Social experiment? One would have to question the ethics behind a “social experiment” that preyed on people’s ethnicity in such a hurtful manner. But of course, that’s giving this group too much credibility. “Social experiment” is too grand a term for a bunch of racist pranksters looking for a cheap laugh.
In a letter sent by the director of Asian Pacific Islander Affairs, Alexander Cena wrote:
“This poster perpetuates the notion that Asian American restaurant owners are somehow low class and dirty. The myth of serving these animals has been historically used to slander members of the Asian American community; making them out to be thieves who eat peoples’ pets. This stereotype is fueled by ignorance and exaggerations.”
A meeting was held on campus yesterday to discuss the fliers. Vice President of Student Affairs, David Kratzer, was scheduled to attend.
WCJB: Group behind racist fliers sends message: social experiment my ass. Too bad they don’t have the guts to put out their real names and faces, because they’d earn a one way ticket to the hospital after someone stood their ground and gave them what they deserved.
