A new report from the National Coalition of Asian Pacific American Development finds the poverty rate in the Asian American community grew more than three times from 2007 to 2012, according to the International Examiner.
The report entitled Spotlight on Asian American and Pacific Islander Poverty: A Demographic Profile found that 2.1 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders lived in poverty in 2012.
New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco are home to 30 percent of the Asian American poor.
All three have high concentrations of Asian Americans and all three have high housing costs, but the report drew no conclusions about what is causing the spike in poverty.
