NY Times: Chinese girls adopted by same sex couple see the Chinese in themselves

Chinese girls adopted by same sex coupleIt’s something you rarely see these days– an adoption of children from China by same sex couples.

In recent years, China has made such adoptions nearly impossible, reports the NY Times.

Two exceptions are Kimberly and Catie. The girls, ages 9 and 11, were adopted in 2003 and 2004 by Barbara Cough and Marilyn Thomas.

Barbara’s great grandfather Daniel Cough was the first Chinese man from China to become a naturalized citizen in Maine.

Like many other Asian American children, the girls are in search of their identity. You can hear them and their parents talk about their Chinese heritage in the video from the New York Times below.
