Prosecutors are refiling visa fraud charges against Devyani Khobragade, just two days after a federal judge threw out the case, reports DNA.
“A grand jury has returned a true bill today on a two-count criminal indictment of Devyani Khobragade,” said prosecutor Preet Bharara in a statement.
An arrest warrant has also been issued for Khobragade, who has returned to India.
“The government of India will respond in due course,” said Khobragade’s attorney, Daniel Arshack.
The case became an international incident after Khobragade was strip searched and handcuffed when arrested last year.
It has caused tensions between India and United States, which historically have had a good relationship.
