A Filipino American veteran who just got back from a tour of duty in Afghanistan was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver in the San Francisco Bay Area town of Fremont.
ABC7 news reports that 23-year-old Alexander Yohn has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run in the death of 23-year-old Lance Corporal Andrew Silva.
Prosecutors say Silva died instantly after he was struck and thrown from his motorcycle.
News of Silva’s death spread quickly as a memorial has grown at the crash site.
“We’ve had a lot of moms come out, a lot of former Marines and Vietnam Veterans, a lot of people showing up for us, a lot of support has been great,” Silva’s brother-in-law Linh Nguyen said.
