The Independent: Judith Hill coming out of shadows to release 1st album

Judith HillThe days of Judith Hill staying in the background will soon be the thing of the past with the release of her debut album this summer, reports The Guardian.

Hill is best known as being a back up singer for Michael Jackson. She also performed Heal the World at the pop star’s memorial service and had a good run on NBC’s singing competition, The Voice, last year.

Hill, who is of Japanese American and African American descent, has also sung with Stevie Wonder, Elton John, the Roots and Kylie Minogue.

Hill says after having years of success making good money as a back up singer, its time for her to take the plunge and go solo.

“I had to make a hard decision: I was either going to really prioritise writing my album or keep letting the years go by. It’s comfy, good pay and you have amazing experiences. I’ve seen it happen to so many singers. They look back and ask: ‘Where did the time go? Years have passed and I haven’t really done what I wanted to do as an artist.’ I was afraid of that.”

A lot of people expected Hill’s career to take off after her performance at Jackson’s service, but she said it wasn’t the right time.

You can read about that and more on her rise in The Guardian.
