Asian Americans Advancing Justice today said the term redskins to Native Americans is just as offensive as the words “ching Chong” are to many Asian Americans.
The national civil rights group issued a statement to “stand in solidarity with the Oneida Indian Nation, which is leading the Change the Mascot campaign, in its efforts to stop Washington DC’s NFL team from further propagating and profiting from a racial slur.”
Some Native Americans have complained the recent #CancelColbert controversy following the Colbert Reports “ching chong” tweet, diverted attention from the change the mascot campaign.
Advancing Justice encouraged other AAPI groups to join the effort.
