Inside Counsel: Can Asian American lawyers break through bamboo ceiling?

Inside Counsel reports the gap is referred to by many as the bamboo ceiling.

The percentages among Asian Americans making it to partner were lower than that of both African American and Hispanics.

A major legal recruiting firm along with a general practice firm are hosting what is expected to be a robust and candid dialogue about the situation on May 14 in Chicago.

Law firm Vedder Price and recruiter Major, Lindsey & Africa hope the discussion will lead to greater mentoring of Asian American attorneys as well as greater opportunities.

“Asian Americans are sort of the forgotten minority,” general counsel Cathy Tang said. “The Asian American lawyers are seen as successful, but it depends on how you define success.”
