ABC7: FBI widens net in Leland Yee corruption probe

Leland YeeThe FBI is interviewing members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors as it widens the net in its corruption probe of State Senator Leland Yee.

ABC7 reports that the interviews are considered routine, but more charges and arrests could be announced in the near future.

Some in City Hall questioned why the interviews, which were considered voluntary, were necessary.

A spokesperson for Board President David Chiu said he didn’t think Chiu had much to tell the FBI. Chiu was once under police protection after he moved to shut down the Chinatown Night Market that Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow managed.

“Supervisor Chiu did receive some police protection for a couple of months after that incident so he may have a little bit more history there, but I don’t know that there’s anything to add to their particular case,” Chiu’s aide Judson True said.

Chow faces charges of money laundering and trafficking in stolen liquor and cigarette. His involvement with Yee lead investigators to the State Senator.

Chow today pleaded not guilty along with four other defendants in the case.
