A Sikh man says he’s being denied the right to sit on a jury because of his faith.
A small 6 inch dagger known as a kirpan is a fundamental part of the Sikh faith.
But 6 inch daggers are banned from the Sutter County Courthouse in California.
Gursant Singh, a Sikh, refuses to compromise his faith and hand over his kirpan to court security.
Because of that, Singh has been banned from sitting on a jury.
Sikh24 reports Singh is taking a stand and hopes his action will lead to a change of the rules.
I feel very strongly that as a citizen of the United States that I should be able to serve as a juror,” Singh told CBS Sacramento.”[But] they’ve put me in a position. Either I violate my code of conduct with my religion, or I break the law.”
Singh posted a video on You Tube elaborating on his position.
