Huff Post: Why my Asian immigrant parents were wrong

Frank Wu The dean of the University of California’s Hasting School of Law grew up under the strict guidance of his Chinese immigrant parents.

Frank Wu writes for the Huff Post that while he greatly admires and respects his parents, much of what the taught him was all wrong.

He recalls they once forced him to resign from a leadership position at his high school because they thought it would detract from his studies.

They taught him to be humbly modest and false deprecating.

They taught him to be risk adverse.

All these traits, such Wu, would not have served him well as a lawyer had he listened to his parents.

Is Wu being too harsh on his parents, and indirectly unfair to other immigrant parents as well.

Read Wu’s thoughts in the Huff Post, and let us know what you think.
