Kor-Can: Sandra Oh bows out of Grey’s Anatomy this Thursday

Sandra Oh After ten seasons, actress Sandra Oh is leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

This Thursday will be her last show, reports Kor-Can.

The Korean Canadian attended the National Theater School of Canada in Montreal. (an earlier version of this story mixed fiction with reality and incorrectly stated her educational background) Oh bucked her parents and pursued acting.

“They didn’t see that there was any meaning to being an actor,” Oh said. “It was like, ‘What are you doing for society? Are you being a good Christian?’ They were classic immigrants – they wanted their children to become doctors or lawyers.”

Oh won five consecutive Emmy nominations for her role on Grey’s (from 2005-2009) and a Golden Globe for best supporting actress in 2006 and best supporting role from the Screen Actor’s Guild in 2006.

She says after 10 seasons, its time to step away.

“It was an emotional and deeply creative decision for me and I feel fully supported by Shonda (Shonda Rhimes, executive producer) and the writers,” Oh said in a statement. “It’s so rare in an actor’s life to be able to explore and grow a character so fully, so completely. I am profoundly grateful to everyone at GA for the opportunity.”

You can read about how Oh got her start in acting and an interesting story about her audition. She was not supposed to audition for the role of Yang. You can read about that in Kor-Can.

Here’s a sneak peek at the farewell episode.
