Could it be that America’s broadcast executives are finally getting it?
Time reports that next TV season will have the most diverse casts ever with many minority actors in the lead.
We will have three series with Asian American leads, Fresh Off the Boat on ABC with Randall Park, Hudson Yang and Constance Wu; and Selfie with John Cho, also on ABC. Plus we have the return of the Mindy Project with Mindy Kaling on Fox.
There are also series with African American leads and Hispanic leads.
Executives are finally seeing the connection between this country’s changing demographics and changing tastes in television. They are finally seeing the connection between diversity, higher ratings and profits.

Diversity may be just the television flavor of the month. Some seasons its hospital dramas that are big, other seasons its crime, another year it might be comedy.
This year it just may be diversity.
But before you get too excited, consider this. If these diverse shows don’t do well, it will be back to the tried and true.
