ABC7/KGO: Fears arson attack on Vietnamese American family may be racially motivated

Tran car arson in San Jose Arson investigators are looking into an early morning attack Tuesday on a Vietnamese American family in San Jose, reports ABC7/KGO.

Authorities spent at least four hours with the family last night interviewing them in a search for what might be behind the attack.

Surveillance video shows a hooded suspect pouring gasoline on the family’s Acura SUV before torching it with a match.

“They’re heartless. They’re cold blooded individuals,” said Vince Tran about the two suspects believed involved in the torching of his car. “They don’t think about anything else.”

Some members of the Vietnamese community are openly wondering whether this attack was racially motivated.

“As a member of the Vietnamese community and working with children and family, I want everyone to feel safe where they live,” said Buu Thai, a school board member and Vietnamese community leader. She called on the Asian American community to show their support for the family.

This isn’t the first time the family has been hit.

On may 11, two suspects who appeared similar were caught on surveillance video dousing the Tran’s SUV with paint. On April 23, the tires were punctured.

You can watch the surveillance video in the clips below from KGO.
