Celebrities, journalists, book lovers and everyday people are reacting with sadness to the death of Maya Angelou, one of the greatest writers and poets of our time (photo from Facebook).
Angelou died in her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina today, announced her literary agent.
Her family posted the following statement on her Facebook page, calling her “a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace.”
Actor and civil rights activists George Takei eloquently said “we release her spirit today back to the starry heavens. May your light shine ever on, Maya Angelou.”
Doris Truong, former president of the Asian American Journalists Association simply said “go with the angels, Ms. Angelou.”
And prominent blogger Jeff Yang wrote “You were an inspiration of life, hope & truth.”
