With almost 53 percent of the vote counted, Rep Ami Bera has 49 percent of the vote in District 7 Congressional race.
His closest challenger is Republican Doug Ose with 26 percent, according to the California Secretary of State’s office.
Bera is a one term Representative and currently the only Indian American in Congress.
Republicans had targeted Bera as someone that could be vulnerable.
Under California’s open primary system, the top two vote getters advance to the general election.
