Sacramento Bee: Asian & Latino Caucus move to wipe out Prop 187 from books

Kevin de Leon Proposition 187 which cut publicly funded education, welfare and health care for undocumented immigrants would be wiped from California’s law books, under a bill backed by the Asian and Latino Caucuses, reports the Sacramento Bee.

The referendum which passed in 1994 was overturned by the federal courts in 1999, but many of its provisions remain in California’s law books.

“We think that symbolically its a very powerful gesture to all Californians that we will remove and completely erase this part of our troubled history with immigrants, said State Senator Kevin de Leon.
