Thousand Oaks Acorn: Arrests made in theft ring targeting Indian Americans

Indian American home theft ringFive arrests have been made in what authorities say is a theft ring targeting Indian Americans in two states, reports the Thousand Oaks Acorn (photo from Ventura County Sheriff’s Dept of stolen goods).

Sheriff deputies say the arrests are connected to 100 home burglaries in California and Nevada from February 2013 to March of this year.

At least four other suspects are being sought.

“They preyed on these people because there’s been a culture of passing down jewelry and gold for generations as family wealth and, a lot of times, this is known to criminal groups,” Assistant Sheriff Gary Pentis of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department in California said.

Authorities said they broke the case open when some of the suspects began posting pictures of their haul on social media.

Police also said some of the victims may have been their own worst enemies. You can read about that in the Thousand Oaks Acorn.
