(Note from the editor: This article has been corrected to call the University by its full name throughout. I have been dropping Seattle, which may have confused readers as there is another school known as Pacific University. We regret the error).
The Asian American hero who pepper sprayed and tackled the suspect in the Seattle Pacific University shooting and stopped more bloodshed is being inundated with gifts from strangers.
As we reported yesterday, John Meis is two weeks away from getting married.
A check of GoFundMe where a campaign was launched by Jessamyn McIntyre has raised $39,277 for the couple in just 24 hours.
At the time of this writing, more than 1,200 people have contributed.

“On June 5th, 2014, Jon Meis successfully subdued and disarmed an active gunman on Seattle Pacific University’s campus. Seattle Police say if he didn’t take action that day, there was almost certain to be more loss of life. He and his fiance are getting married on June 21st and this page is here simply for those in the community who wish to show gratitude toward this local hero. This couple hasn’t asked for anything, but many wish to contribute to their future – here is the place to do so.”
Messages of gratitude are coming in from across the country and even internationally for the couple on the GoFundMe site.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am a proud SPU Mom. Thank you for being a brave man and saving our children. You are my hero!,” wrote Michelle Plowman Bartholomew.
” I wish that I could donate to you and your lovely fiance but as I am struggling myself, all I can really do is say thank you for not thinking about your own safety but of those around you without any hesitation,” said Chelsi Miller.
“I hope you have a very special honeymoon, and prosperous future. 🙂 Truly remarkable what you did, Jon. Hero’s do exist! Greetings from the Netherlands…” said Rik Schoonenberg.
