Rappler: Ostracized Filipino American Major Army General makes comeback

Tony Taguba Army Major General Antonio ‘Tony’ Taguba thought he was serving his country when he oversaw the stinging investigation into the Abu Ghraib torture scandal in 2004 (image from AARP).

Unfortunately his superiors didn’t see it that way, reports Rappler.

The Filipino American lead the investigation which confirmed allegations of sadistic and criminal abuse inflicted by the US military against detainees at the Abu Ghraib Prison.

Taguba retired in 2007–having been largely marginalized by the US Army brass following his unpopular report.

He recently made his first public appearance since his retirement, marching at the Philippine Independence Day Parade in New York.

He’s also speaking to young people about retirement retirement, growing up old, his beginnings living in poverty and the need for mentoring.

You can catch up with what he’s been up to in Rappler.
