Rafu Shimpo: Big boost for Japanese American Studies at UCLA

UCLA An endowed research fund has been set up for Japanese American Studies at UCLA thanks to a generous one million dollar gift from the estate of the late Dr. Sanbo Sakaguchi, and his late wife, Kazuko, reports Rafu Shimpo.

The couple met while attending UCLA and have maintained strong ties to the university being one of UCLA’s top donors.

“The remarkable gift from Dr. and Mrs. Sakaguchi will only strengthen our excellence in Japanese American studies,” said David K. Yoo, director of the center and a professor of Asian American studies. “Students, scholars and community-based partners will benefit in perpetuity from the generosity of the Sakaguchi family.”
