A garden once named one of the ten best Japanese gardens in North America celebrated its 30th anniversary Sunday, reports the Daily News.
The 61 acre site known simply as the The Japanese Garden in Van Nuys has been recognized by the Journal of Japanese Gardening for its natural beauty and subtleness.
There are an estimated 300 Japanese gardens in North America and this is considered among the best.
“For us to have a top 10 garden in Los Angeles is an extraordinary thing, especially when so much of this is done on volunteer work,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti.
The garden is considered a symbol of the Japanese community in the Valley.
