American Bazaar: “The jerk” who may have started the money giveaway craze

It’s happened in New York and Mexico.

An anonymous person who’s since been identified as Jason Buzi has been giving away cash to strangers, offering clues of where to find the money on his Twitter account, @Hiddencash.

American Bazaar reports the trend may have been started last year by a Bay Area man some describe as a jerk, others describe as amusing.

The Indian American went by the name Lavish P on social media. He first launched contests offering cash prizes, but later just gave the money away to people he described as peasants–those he considered lower than him on the financial ladder.

Lavish P came and he went. He suddenly disappeared. Some speculate he got into legal trouble for creating contests and never paying out the prizes.

You can read more about his exploits in the American Bazaar.
