posted by Randall

No Build ZoneRallies will be held in front of the White House and 10 communities on July 4 for Temporary Protected Status for Filipinos in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, reports the Inquirer.

In Washington, DC, protestors will hold a huge banner in front of the White House lawn in a bid to get the President’s attention when he comes out to enjoy the fireworks that night.

Similar demonstrations will be held at Fourth of July parades at Austin, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco with rallies also planned for New Jersey,  Chicago, Houston, Maryland, Philadelphia, Texas and Virginia, including the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and Guam,

TPS would grant Filipino nationals employment authorization and travel permits so they can travel to help their loved ones in the Philippines rebuild their lives.

“Thus, there is a compelling need to provide them with legal protections.  It has been seven months since the Aquino government asked the Obama Administration for TPS. We are calling on President Obama to please direct Homeland Security to grant TPS now.”

You can read about the letter organizers sent to President Obama that was backed by hundreds including dozens of congressional leaders in the Inquirer.
