President Obama announced today he was moving forward on immigration reform unilaterally.
The President says he decided to take this action after Republican House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said no vote would be taken on the issue in the House this year.
Mister Obama says the votes are there from both parties to pass reform and he can no longer wait.
The President has directed Attorney General Eric Holder and the Homeland Security Department to come up with a list of things he can push forward by using executive action and without congressional approval.
At the same time, the President says he will put more resources into deporting people who pose a risk to national security or public safety. More people have been deported during Obama’s years at the White House than the entire eight years under President George W Bush.
