A reenactment of 63 Japanese Americans resisting the draft after being incarcerated at Heart Mountain took place Thursday.
The Powell Tribune reports the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation presented the pubic reading of “Heart Mountain: Conscience, Loyalty, and the Constitution,” in Cody, Wyoming.
Among those participating was draft resister Yosh Kuromiya, now 91, who was sentenced to three years in federal prison for resisting the draft.
“It (prison) was more humane than Heart Mountain,” Kuromiya said prior to the trial re-enactment. “At least we knew why we were there.”
Also scheduled to attend was fellow draft resister Takashi Hoshizaki, but he was hospitalized that afternoon and could not attend.
