GMA: Filipino American named to top University journalism school post

Andrew DeVigal Andrew DeVigal has has been named the first Chair of Journalism Innovation and Civic Engagement by the University of Oregon, reports GMA.

The Filipino American and former multi-media editor of the New York Times was chosen for his “dynamic history of developing innovative, award-winning journalistic projects for national and global communities.” according to Julianne Newton, interim dean.

One of DeVigal’s goals will be to better teach students how to tell good stories.

“None of this discussion matters if you don’t know how to put a structure together, get people to care, compel them within a narrative. We all — students and professionals alike — must figure out ways to get our audience’s attention,” he said.
