Urban Outfitters stops sale of bed cover after protest from Hindus

Urban Outfitter Lord Ganesha duvet cover Urban Outfitters quietly removed the sale of a bed cover from its website this weekend following demands from the Hindu American community.

Twelve days ago the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism said the image of Lord Ganesha is meant to be worshiped, and not used as a commercial image. Rajan Zed also demanded an apology.

Zed thanked Urban Outfitters today for understanding the concerns of the Hindu community, but said ” an official apology from UO to the upset Hindu community was still due as it was their second incident trivializing Lord Ganesha. First was socks carrying Lord Ganesha’s image, which were removed in December,” said Zed.

Urban Outfitters has not issued a formal statement on the controversy, nor has it confirmed the duvet cover would not be sold again.

Just days ago, members of the Christian and Jewish community also called on Urban Outfitters to remove the duvet cover from sale.
