It’s the kind of role John Cho is not used to being offered.
In a rare move, ABC has cast him as the romantic lead in its new upcoming fall series, Selfie.
“I would call this revolutionary. It’s certainly a personal revolution for me,” said Cho to The Star.
The 42-year old is best known as Harold Lee of the Harold & Kumar movie series.
“Asians narratively in shows are insignificant. They’re the cop, or the waitress, or whatever it is. You see them in the background. So to be in this position . . . is a bit of a landmark,” says Cho.
Emily Kapnek is the show’s creator and executive producer, yet it wasn’t her idea to cast Cho in the role.
