A Japanese American faculty member is suing Goddard College in Vermont for discrimination and retaliation, reports the Rutland Herald.
Judy Hiramoto, of San Francisco is seeking $100,000 plus in damages.She taught in the interdisciplinary art program from 2003 to 2011. Hiramoto says her evaluations turned negative in 2006 after she reported racist remarks made by a student. Her evaluation from peers included remarks she felt were full of stereotypes such as she wasn’t sociable, was described as quiet and alienated from other faculty members.
Hiramoto said her program directors were Taiwanese American and Armenian American and had known hostilities toward Japanese Americans.
Goddard said it was still evaluating the lawsuit and had no comment.
