Boom: Higher Rents Pushing Chinese Americans ouf of San Francisco

San Francisco Clement Street Anecdotal evidence reported in the California journal Boom indicates that middle and low income Chinese residents and business owners are being pushed out by unaffordable rents.

The school system has seen a trend in a steady decline in the number of Asian births and an increase in the number of births to white parents.

“The percentage of births that were to white mothers living in San Francisco increased substantially between 1980 and 2008—from 29 percent in 1990 to 41 percent in 2008,” according to a recent report. “The number of white births has increased more than births from other ethnicities.”

Some of these Chinese residents are being pushed out by their landlords from Asia who are looking for a handsome return for their overseas investments and jacking up rents.

The sad irony in that can’t be denied. You can read more about that in Boom
