RYOT: Photos of Mixed Raced Families Document a Once Illegal Act

CYJOKorean American visual artist CYJO spent three years traveling between New York and Beijing seeking to photograph mixed race families.

The results, reports RYOT, is a photo exhibition entitled Mixed Blood. In it, she sought to show the intersection between each families cultures, ethnicities and languages.

It was just 47 years ago in the United States that it was illegal to marry someone of a different race.

CYOJO believes Mixed Blood represents progress.

She is known for her KYOPO project which documented “American immigration and identity through the lens of her Korean ancestry,” according to her website.

She wonders “What will be those cultural differences aside from language and food that will make a culture unique? There’s so much more we can learn from each other, especially from our differences.”
