Hindustan Times: Infighting Surfaces in Indian American Community Over Hosting of Party for PM Modi

Narendra ModiAs many as 20,000 people are expected at Madison Square Garden in New York City  for a party for newly elected Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi next month, reports the Hindustan Times.

It’s expected to be the largest ever gathering for an Indian leader in the United States and will be simulcast in several cities.

Illinois-based Bharat Barai is heading up the organization of the party which is being planned under the umbrella of the newly formed Indian American Community Foundation, USA.  That reportedly has some Indian Americans in New York and New Jersey upset.

In New Jersey last month, some people tried to physically remove Barai from the stage. Modi’s BJP or Bharatiya Janata Party has sent someone from India to try to smooth over egos.

You can read more details of the Modi celebration next month in New York in the Hindustan Times.
