India West: Film about Sikh Hate Crime Wins Award from PBS

My Dear American A short film by Indian American director Arpita Kumar has won the People’s Choice Award in online voting by viewers of PBS.

My Dear Americans is about a Sikh couple’s response to a hate crime. It received more than 50,000 votes, reports India West.

PBS describes the film this way:

An overly excited husband tries to cheer up his wife as they prepare to celebrate Fourth of July in their brand new home – complete with matching American flag T-shirts; but as the Indian-American couple adjust to life in the ‘burbs they are soon exposed to local ignorance and prejudice that threatens to dampen their spirits.
