Sacramento Bee: First Phase of Restoration Completed for Historic Chinatown

Isleton, CA Chinese & Japanese Commercial DistrictThe community of Isleton in the Sacramento Delta celebrated the completion of the first phase of the restoration of the Chinese community center, reports the Sacramento Bee (file photo).

The community once boasted a bustling Chinatown, but like so many others in the Delta, fell into disrepair. $600,000 was spent to bring back to life the historic Bing Kong Tong building where the community often gathered and a Chinese language school was held from 1926 until the 1940s.
