There is not a single Asian American Studies class offered this semester at Yale University.
The Yale Daily News reports that a petition has been launched by Asian American students for better representation in academics.
“We have a great cultural house and a thriving community, but Yale is an academic institution, and we’d like to see the student representation within the curriculum as well,” said Austin Long, a senior who heads the Asian American Studies task force.
The University has just one professor who teaches Asian American Studies and she is on maternity leave. Some students have resorted to independent study as an alternative.
The first Asian American Studies conference will be held on campus in February.
