For the first time, an Asian American is running for citywide office in Washington, DC, reports Asian Fortune.
Kishan Putta is running for an at-large seat on the D.C. city council. He has work with the DC government in helping to enroll people for insurance under the Affordable Care Act. He has served as a neighborhood commissioner for Dupont Circle since his election in 2012.
He is a former reporter for the Los Angeles Times where he covered the health beat.
“The APA community is disproportionately susceptible to chronic disease, like diabetes and other disorders. I care a lot about addressing these issues and I have a strong background to help support that work,”
In 2008, Putta help mobilize Asian American and Pacific Islander voters with his work with the group APIA Vote.
