Wong, Ishikawa Resume Hot Streaks in NL Championship Series

Kolten Wong

(Update: Kolten Wong continued his hot streak at the start of game 4 Wednesday. In his first two at bats, he hit a double and a home run. He’s also scored two runs. He showed he’s human in his third at bat grounding out and grounded out again in the 8th. The rookie has 7 extra base hits in the series.  Ishikawa left the game in the 6th for a pinch hitter after going 0-2. ).

Two Asian American players normally under the radar of the national media are taking center stage in the National League Championship Series.

Kolten Wong of the St. Louis Cardinals and Travis Ishikawa (seen in file photo) of the San Francisco Giants areresponsible 5 of the combined 9 runs their two teams scored Tuesday.

Ishikawa hit a triple in the first with the bases loaded to give the Giants an early 4 – 0 lead. Cardinal manager Mike Matheny elected to intentionally walk Brandon Belt ahead of Ishikawa to load the bases. Ishikawa made him pay with a double that some say would have been a grand slam if the wind had not knocked his ball down.

“That’s as good as I can hit a ball,” Ishikawa told Chris Haft of MLB.com

The blast scored three giving Ishikawa four RBIs in the series and a batting average of .500. That’s the highest on the team.

Just one game after hitting a walk off home run, the “Hammerin Hawaiian” Wong had two extra base hits. His triple in the fourth knocked in two runs.

“I’m seeing the ball real well right now,” Wong said to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. “I’m staying back, making it more of a priority to just stay back and let my hands do the work instead of just trying to generate power from using my body.”

The Cardinals lost the game in the 10th inning on a throwing error to first. The Giants lead the series 2 games to 1RELATED STORIES
