Perspectives: Rate of New HIV Cases in Asian American Community Declines

World Aids DayThe number of HIV cases in the Asian American community has actually remained stable despite a 43 percent population increase between 2000 and 2010, reports Perspectives.

The rate of new infections during that time has also declined.

Despite the positive news, there is still much to be concerned about.

The Center for Disease Control reports that one out of three Asian Americans who develop AIDS do so in a relatively short amount of time after contracting HIV.

They may not be receiving the treatment and care to prevent disease progression. Asian Americans are less likely to get tested for HIV than any other group.  On top of that, there are fewer cultural specific prevention  programs targeting Asian Americans.

Unfortunately, the rate of HIV for American Pacific Islanders is actually two times that of whites.  That’s the third highest behind blacks and Hispanics.

You can read about the challenges of caring for Asian American and Pacific Islanders in Perspectives.

  1. RE: Rate of New HIV cases in Asian American community declines: This is good news. However, there are more and more American getting other sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and herpes. If you are doubtful if you have acquired these diseases or not, get medical attention right away. Get yourself tested. Visit http://sexualwellnesscenters.com for more information.
