ABC: South Korean Superfan Returns to Cheer on Royals in World Series

Sungwoo LeeSungWoo Lee is feeling the pressure of the World Series for the Kansas City Royals, reports ABC.

Lee doesn’t play for the team, but he’s considered the Royals good luck charm.

He’s made the trip from South Korea to watch the Kansas City in its first World Series since it last won in 1985.

His superfandom became legendary this summer when avid Royal followers alerted the team about Lee.

He’s been following the team religiously from South Korean for 15 years, and often listens to the broadcast live despite the huge 14 hour time difference.

The Royals invited him to Kaufmann Stadium in August to throw out the first pitch. During his visit, the team won 9 out of 10 games and catapulted into first place.

“Baseball is a superstitious sport, and I worry about a jinx,” he told the Wall Street Journal. “All the credit should go to the players on the field.”

Lee almost didn’t make the trip out for the Series. You can read about how his adventure in getting to the US on ABC.
