Uproxx: Adoptive Parents Learn Not All Asians Are Same

Forbidden CityThis story has to fall into the Oh, Sh*t file.

Uproxx reports white parents adopted a child from an Asian American family 17 years ago.  The couple decided they wanted their child to learn about his own culture so they sent him to Chinese school,  took him out for dim sum, learned all the Chinese holiday traditions and even took him to China every two years.

17 years later when it was time to fill out college applications, the father dug into old files and found the original adoption records. His parents last names were Park and Kim. The birth parents were Korean Americans, not Chinese.

You can read the father’s mea culpa in Uproxx.
