Seattle Times: Seattle’s South Asian Film Festival Is a No-Bollywood Zone

Seattle South Asian Film FestivalSocial relevance, not sexy dance numbers is the focus of Seattle’s South Asian Film Festival which opens today, reports the Seattle Times.

You won’t find any Bollywood films at this festival.

“We wanted shorts and independent films that portray and tell the stories in a true way,” said Rita Meher, the Festival’s executive director. “In India, we ride scooters, not SUVs. Yet, every Bollywood movie would have an SUV and someone living in a mansion.”

There are more than 40 films on the schedule addressing such things as sex trafficking, discrimination and LBGT issues.

The Festival runs through November 9.

You can get a rundown of the films on the schedule in the Seattle Times.
