Rare footage just uncovered shows baseball legends Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig playing with a group of Japanese American all stars, reports Rafu Shimpo.
The game took place at Fireman’s Ballpark in Fresno, CA after the New York Yankees won the 1927 World Series.
Gehrig and Ruth barnstormed the West Coast in a goodwill baseball tour.
Among the Japanese American ballplayers to participate in the game were Johnny Nakagawa, Kenichi Zenimura, Fred Yoshikawa and Harvey Iwata.
They played for Gehrig on his Larrupin Lou’s squad and beat Ruth’s Bustin’ Babes, 13-3.
The footage was taken by Taizo Toshiyuki and obtained and later released by the Nisei Baseball Research Project.
