The race between Rep Mike Honda and Ro Khanna in the Asian American majority district of Silicon and Santa Clara Valleys remains too close to call.
3,549 votes separate the two candidates, but 40,000 mail-in ballots are still being counted.
Honda, however, is confident. His spokesman Vivek Kembaiyun says Honda has lead in both votes at the polls and in the absentee ballots already counted.
“With the information available, it appears that the voters have made their decision,” Kembaiyun said. ”
“However, we respect the work of the County Elections Department in Alameda and Santa Clara and will wait to find out how many votes remain to be counted before making an announcement about the results.”

In a statement, the candidate urged his supporters to “hang in tight.”
