After two years in confinement in North Korea, American Kenneth Bae is on his way home to the United States, reports CNN..
Bae was released along with fellow American Matthew Todd Miller.
All Americans held captive in North Korea have now been released.
There’s no immediate reaction from Bae’s family in Washington State, but they understandably must be overjoyed. His sister Terri Chung has waged a very public campaign to bring Kenneth home. His mother visited Bae in North Korea in October of last year, but left heartbroken without her son.
The White House said it received a surprise invitation to send an envoy to North Korea to discuss the situation. U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper dropped everything and headed to Pyongyang immediately. The White House said there was no “quid pro quo” for the release.
