High school sophomore Philip Tran is turning doubters into believers.
The quarterback for the Fremont High Firebirds has lead his team in the San Francisco Bay Area to a 9-0 record. According to Patch, he’s passed for 22 touchdowns and 1700 yards with only two interceptions.
“Everybody doubted us,” Tran said after the Firebirds upset the Santa Clara Wilcox 35-19. “We knew we had to come out here and execute. We struggled in the beginning, but at the end of the day we pulled off a win.”
Tran is Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese in a sports that doesn’t see many Asian Americans play at any level. You can watch some of his highlights from a recent sports camp below. You can read about his thoughts on being an Asian American playing football in Patch.
