Undocumented Asian immigrants are slowly coming out of the shadows, but not as quickly as immigrant advocates would like, reports NBC LA.
Despite President Obama’s immigration reform package offering temporary relief, some in the Asian community remain hesitant to take advantage.
“We still feel in the API community there is still a lot of fear in coming out and a lot of shame in being undocumented,” said Trina Lei Pasumbal, herself an undocumented immigrant.
About eight percent of young APIs are eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, but only 2.6 percent have applied.
You can hear the stories of two who did come out in the clip below from NBC LA.
